The school is named after Max Oscar Arnold, who was born in the year 1854 in Neustadt bei Coburg. He advocated the establishment of a secondary school.
The beginning
In 1909, a 9-level intermediate school with English and French as foreign languages was established.
This school was transformed into a local secondary school in 1923 and its constructions ended in 1928.
The evolution
On the 01/03/1957 the school`s name was changed to " Staatliche Oberrealschule ". The school was obliged by the city to build their own housings until 1960 and on the 30/04/1960 the school was nationalised. Five years later it finally became the Arnold-Gymnasium, as we know it today. The first Abitur ever at the Arnold-Gymnasium was passed by all 20 people that took part in it in 1961. Further change took place in 1965 when the AG became a mathematics and science grammar school and in 1974 it extended with an economic branch. The constructions to our second school building called "Beta" started in 1980 and the building was first opened in October 1982. In 1996 the city's very own television station was founded which has a recording studio located in the Arnold-Gymnasium. The third building belonging to our school was opened on the 10/11/1999 and is called "Gamma".
The present
Our first charity run the L.A.U.F took place in 2006 and four years later in 2010 the construction of our own cafeteria the "Mensa" was planned. The new gym of the school was opened in 2011 and the "Mensa" was finished in 2014.
